In case of disastrous incidents, you might receive an NL-Alert. This is a telephonic message from the government describing the incident and its location. It also states what your plan of action should be and refers you to informative sources.

When will you receive an NL-Alert?

  • An NL-Alert is acquired when there is an incident in your vicinity. This is determined by the locationof your mobile signal.
  • As long as you have signal, you are eligible for receiving an NL-Alert.
  • When in airplane mode or on Wi-Fi only, you will not receive an NL-Alert.

Text message and monthly siren

In June and December, you will receive a text message on the first Monday of the month at 12 in the afternoon. This text message will run simultaneous with the monthly siren test. That way, you can test whether your phone receives NL-Alerts. Each Monday of the month we test the sirens at 12pm.

Check your phone

  • Does your phone use a different control system or are you using an older, less-updated phone? Reach out to the customer service of your phone’s manufacturer.

NL-Alert app

Everyone in the Netherlands should always be able to receive an NL-Alert. The NL-Alert app ensures this, as it is specially designed for people living close to the Dutch border and who are less certain of receiving these NL-Alerts. Furthermore, it aids people with visual or audial difficulties.
