Siren test: is everything still in working order?
The siren test is conducted from the regional command centre in Drachten. The test takes about 1.5 minutes. We are testing that everything is working as it should. You should be able to hear the siren wherever you are. If the first Monday of the month is a national holiday or Remembrance Day, there will be no test.
I can hear the siren. What do I do?
If you hear the siren on the first Monday of the month at 12 noon, you can relax. It is just a test. Any other time the siren sounds, it is meant to alert you to danger. Go to a safe place, tune into the news, and do as the emergency response services say. Visit the website of Eerste hulp ben jij (You are the first aider) (in Dutch) to find out more about the five steps you can take to stay safe when the siren has sounded.
