39 fire stations in 10 municipalities

Fire brigade Groningen consists of all fire stations in the Groningen province, it is also a sector of Safety Region Groningen. From within the 39 stations, we work for 10 municipalities in our province: accounting for roughly 590,000 inhabitants. In total, around 750 volunteers and 90 full-time personnel are working hard in the stations; aided by 70 vehicles. In Groningen, there are two stations allocated for the professionals, who are ready for action 24/7.

Professional personnel

There are two stations in Groningen city (Sontweg and Vinkhuizen) that employ professional firefighters. Here, more than 90 personnel are set to extinguish fires and to offer help: at any time, any day.

We do not merely extinguish fires; we are dedicated to four main tasks:

• Extinguishing fires
• Technical Assistance
• Incident control hazardous substances
• Water accidents management

Fire investigations

After certain fires we may initiate fire investigations. These will provide us with information about the cause of the fire. It also gives us the opportunity to further educate people on fire safety.
